The scope of the project was to provide web-hosting, downloading, and monitoring capability for the monthly zipped file that would meet performance requirements.

Overview

The scope of the project was to provide web-hosting, downloading, and monitoring capability for the monthly zipped file that would meet performance requirements. The hosting entity requires an infrastructure that supports a very large file and thousands of monthly downloads. VIVA analyzed the client's requirements in detail and identified Hosting.com and Limelight Networks (LL) as the hosting subcontractors for this engagement. As this involved large amounts of data download with a large user base, VIVA proposed a CDN (Content Delivery Network) solution. For this reason, we selected Limelight Networks, one of the leading companies in providing CDN services. As part of the CDN solution, the NPPES data file will be replicated in multiple servers around the world. VIVA PM had several technical discussions with the LL technical team to set up the CDN infrastructure. This included we hosting server, CDN set-up, etc. VIVA's technical team developed a simple website for the data file. The users were provided with features to download the data file from the web page. As part of the CDN solution, the website and data file will be replicated in multiple LL servers around the world. This will enable the users to download the data quickly from the nearest server, based on the user’s location. VIVA proposed a program manager (PM) and an IT specialist for this project. VIVA's PM developed a simple transition plan to transfer the activities from the incumbent. The transition was seamless and smooth, resulting in zero downtime to the users. VIVA's team had detailed discussions with the client in order to understand the monthly data posting activities. VIVA's team attended the kick-off meeting and developed a Document of Understanding (DOU) showing our understanding of the client’s expectations. As per the client's expectations, the VIVA PM developed a project plan and ensured that all the team members—client, VIVA technical team, LL technical team, and Hosting.com team—were comfortable. The VIVA PM executed the plan and the client's website went live as per the plan. No issues were reported from the kick-off meeting to the website go-live date. The client is very pleased with our on-time and issues-free web-hosting/website launch. The VIVA PM oversees the monthly activities and provides monthly status reports to the client. VIVA's team constantly monitors the data downloads using the LL control panel tool. The tool help to ensure the site is up and running all the time.

Responsibilities

  • Validating the presence of the four files comprising the monthly zipped NPPES file and ensuring that they are the appropriate format before posting, monitoring the uploading of the content, and validating that the content being made available is downloadable.
  • Troubleshooting for corrupt files, corrupt links to files, and/or other technical issues (i.e., related to malware or viruses), and to resolve the issue within 48 hours.
  • VIVA ensured that its system(s) was up to date and had the latest virus definitions and malware prevention measure(s) in place.
  • Provided a Program Director/Manager and IT specialist personnel to manage the above tasks.

VIVA has been providing services to this client in the following categories — Web Design and Application Development, Enterprise Portal Deployment, Development and Customization, Content Management Design and Implementation, Legacy Application Development, Integration and Migration, and Business Process Management. VIVA has implemented, and continuously updated, the enterprise security framework for over 200 applications. VIVA provided solutions to resolve gaps in security; and provided architecture and infrastructure guidance for these applications (SOA, J2EE, Web and/or WebSphere based). Security framework around these applications was developed using SAML Tokens, Spring Security, LDAP, Single Sign-on, JAAS, and DataPower. VIVA resources have worked on the design and development of Java-based applications for Quote Management. This application is used by over 5000+ users who are agents of the client to create quotes for prospect companies. Application is developed using Webservices, Spring, Spring Security, MVC, JDBC. The database is MS SQL Server and RAD (IDE) is used for development. VIVA has been involved in the development of external, public facing pages, wireframe, predetermined page templates, and content management using TeamSite. VIVA developed and edited mockups, visual designs, and images based on wire frames provided. VIVA resources interacted with information architects, content editors, and front-end developers, usability experts, analysts, and worked closely with business owners to establish requirements.

VIVA deployed and supported applications into a WebSphere Application Server v.5.0 and V5.1 and WebSphere Portal Server v5.1 environment.

VIVA's team has developed several web applications using Microsoft Technologies like SharePoint, Microsoft .Net, and SQL Server 2005. VIVA's team was involved in SharePoint 2007 installation and configuration. The State Agency is required to collect and store the payroll reports of grantees as part of the ARRA fund allocation. The SharePoint Site for the Agency has been designed to collect and store the payroll reports for each grantee under their document library. The collected payroll details are validated for the minimum wages, and approval of the form is based on all those validations having been met. The SharePoint website was developed using MOSS 2007, and by using the tools like SharePoint Designer 2007. The SharePoint site has been integrated with Active Directory. The users are being created using Active Directory and added into the SharePoint Site. A custom view page was designed for each grantee to track their payroll details and approval status. For each grantee, a separate security group was created, and permissions are controlled based on the group. The minimum wage details for each work classification are being maintained using SharePoint list. Also, a separate list was created for each grantee to maintain their employee list. The grantee can view and modify their payroll form until it is approved by the State Agency. A workflow feature within the SharePoint website allows the State Agency managers to approve the payroll changes.
